from your first seven fish to the locked door of the sea people's village
Chapter 1 (free), step 1 of 39
Chapter 1: Bancho Sushi Opens
Take control of Dave on Cobra's boat and hold the dive button at the boat's edge to start the prologue dive.
B
Binoguio says:
Vacation is over, big guy.
Swim with the left stick and reach the marked area. Hold the sprint trigger to move faster, knowing sprinting burns oxygen quicker.
Treat the oxygen bar as both your air and your health: enemy hits and hazards drain it, and hitting zero ends the dive early.
B
Binoguio says:
One bar, two jobs. Budget accordingly.
Surface immediately if oxygen runs out. Fainting only costs you the dive's haul, but you keep just one backpack item instead of everything.
Catch three small fish during the tutorial by swimming up to them with the sprint trigger.
Hold the aim button to raise the harpoon reticle and fire with the attack trigger to harpoon three fish. The harpoon has unlimited ammo and only a short reload.
Line up prey to your left or right before firing, since the harpoon cannot aim straight up or down.
B
Binoguio says:
It only shoots sideways. Plan around it.
Surface to end the tutorial dive and watch Cobra and Bancho agree to reopen the sushi restaurant by the Blue Hole.
Enter Bancho Sushi through the boat's front prompt and see the quake-damaged interior. Bancho needs repairs paid off and ingredients.
B
Binoguio says:
The roof caved in. Rent was due, apparently.
Accept the first mission: catch seven fish to serve the opening night guests, then dive again.
Note the game loop on the boat: dive once in the morning and once in the afternoon, then run the restaurant in the evening.
Open the pause menu to check missions, your harpoon gun and knife, and the acquired count with your weight limit of 9 kg.
Dive and watch the bottom-left HUD for oxygen, current depth and carried weight as you swim.
Catch fish with the harpoon to bring them in alive at two-star quality. Fish killed with weapons drop to lower quality; tranquilizing without damage earns three stars.
B
Binoguio says:
Two stars alive, three stars snoozing.
Pick up shimmering items on the seafloor with the interact button, sometimes holding it. Early finds include wood and copper ore knocked loose with knife hits.
Respect the depth limit: below 40 m the depth readout flashes and oxygen drains noticeably faster until you upgrade.
B
Binoguio says:
The depth meter flashing is not a suggestion.
Swim away from fish marked with a red aggressive icon, especially while your oxygen is low.
Refill oxygen by holding the interact button at an O2 tank or a full O2 canister on the reef whenever you pass one.
B
Binoguio says:
Free air, if you can find it.
Open yellow chests for random gear. The Sleepy Toy Hammer found this way tranquilizes fish for three-star catches, though it deals almost no damage.
Grab sellable junk like the silver bowl, and hit flashing plants with the melee button to collect cooking ingredients such as kelp.
B
Binoguio says:
Sell junk, fund repairs.
Chase skittish fish into walls: bounced-off prey swims back into harpoon range and is far easier to catch.
When a caught fish fights back, mash the button or rock the left stick to fill the bar into the green and land it. Big fish may need several wears-down first.
Favor stacking the same fish species, since repeated catches level up that fish's sushi dish later.
B
Binoguio says:
Same fish, stronger dish. Hoard accordingly.
Watch the weight counter turn yellow near 9 kg: you swim slower and burn oxygen faster, and past the hard cap Dave cannot pick up anything more.
End any dive by swimming straight up to the surface from anywhere in the map, not just where you entered.
B
Binoguio says:
Up is always an exit.
Review the dive summary screen: dive number, depth, time under, fish and items collected, then send the catch into the restaurant's fish tank.
Use the morning and afternoon dives to fill storage and hit 100 gold, then head to the restaurant in the evening segment.
In the Ingredients screen, check your fish, crops and sauces, then open the Menu screen to register recipes; only registered dishes sell.
Fill the four menu slots with your most expensive dishes, checking each recipe's price, taste and serving count. Unsold sushi is wasted, so prepare only what should sell.
B
Binoguio says:
Register the pricey stuff first.
Know the fallbacks: guests order Norimaki when sushi runs out, and green tea is always available for one coin.
Pour drinks by taking the order, then using the right stick to fill the cup to the marker line; stopping cleanly on the line earns a Perfect tip.
Wait at Bancho's cooking station for the progress bar to finish, then take the finished dish and deliver it to the flashing, waiting customer.
Dash between tables with the sprint trigger in short bursts, since Dave's serving stamina drains and slows him to a crawl when empty.
B
Binoguio says:
Dash in bursts or you will crawl.
Serve customers who ordered first when several want the same dish, because waiting guests lose patience and leave without paying.
Clean tables by pressing both triggers together about four times, then get back to serving before trash piles up.
B
Binoguio says:
Wipe four times and move on.
Hold the open-business button after filling the menu to start service, and repeat the register-menu step every evening before opening.
Close out the first night, collect the evening's earnings, and note Bancho Sushi is now open for business.
Answer the next morning's phone call from Ellie, the biology student studying the Blue Hole, who asks for two Agar and two Red Starfish.
B
Binoguio says:
She did not say please once.
Use the new smartphone menu to review missions, call contacts, check mail and storage, and change equipment while time stays paused on the boat.
